Video of South Sister Hike

September 10, 2009 By Sean Ogle

So the time has come for me to do my first video blog.  On my recent trip where my friend Brian and I summited the third highest peak in Oregon, we took a lot of video.  The result is my first attempt at any sort of  video editing since I took a multimedia class in 8th grade.  I just ask that you be patient with my amateur attempt at cinematography!  I would also ask that you will forgive the wind noise from the last few scenes, as I couldn’t get the noise reduction filters to work properly.

Another thing I realized while I was editing this, was that I spent a lot of time whining on this hike.  It really wasn’t that bad.  I think I just felt compelled to take a break and shoot video whenever I felt like my quads and lungs were going to give out.

Soundtrack:

Daniella – John Butler Trio

15 Steps – Radiohead

Coolidge Rising – Leo Kottke

Nice! Beautiful imagery and you’re hilarious. You actually tricked me, I was like ‘oh wait, he gave up? Lame.’

Very well done. Looking forward to the next video!

    Sean –

Pretty good job for your first video, I’d say. Also, I had read the post about your climb but the video does it way more justice in terms of how big the mountain actually is. Good work, brotha!

Awesome video! I love that you forgot flash lights, and it was pitch dark when you got there… crazy you started at 2:50am!

Great video.. it was actually entertaining all the way thru, unlink a lot of videos where I check the time and think “geez, I still have 3 mins left.”

You should add more videos to your site. Excellent job on climbing a mountain. 🙂

Thanks everyone for the positive comments! I actually had a really good time making this, it was a nice change of pace from the writing. Now I just need to keep doing interesting stuff that is actually video worthy!

    Dude, loved it.

It’s nice to put a more complete face/voice to the writer. Funny stuff, man.

Awesome, makes me want to go hike Mt. Katahdin, the biggest mountain in Maine. Maybe I will…

I have got to get out there and do some hiking someday, looks incredible.

    Great video Sean

Are you using an HD camera?

I thought about bringing a Nikon D90 on the trip, but it was too bulky and cumbersome to use. So for this video, I was just using my Canon point and shoot. Obviously not the greatest camera, but it it got the job done.
