I’ve heard a few people making excuses lately as to why they haven’t been successful making the changes they want to make in their lives.
One person talked about lack of progress on their blog. I heard another mention that they’re too afraid of the consequences to quit the job they hate. A third wants to travel but “doesn’t have the money”. Each of these people also claimed that their lack of success in various endeavors were in large part to a lack of opportunity.
“I could never do what you do, you’ve had way more opportunities through your connections.”
Yeah someone said that to me. I could go off on a bit of a rant here, but I’m going to refrain and simply say this:
Opportunity is a product of your own creation
Put yourself in a position to succeed and good things will happen, every time. Maybe not right away, maybe not in the short term, but long term if you work hard towards the things you want, opportunities you never would have expected will present themselves.
That said, I want to talk about the most life changing opportunity I’ve ever come across.
That’s a pretty bold statement. The fact remains, it’s true. A similar opportunity was presented to me awhile back and it changed my life forever.
Getting offered this position had nothing to do with luck, and I would have been successful regardless of whether or not I was accepted. But the fact remains, the Tropical MBA was one of the very best things that’s ever happened to me.
And you know what? It’s time for round 3.
I really mean it when I say, for the right person, this will be a dream come true.
Dan and I have been throwing around ideas for how this is going to work for some time now, and he’s made it really clear that he wants to throw down for the Tropical MBA 3rd semester in a big way. Both David of Semester 2 and I have been incredibly successful within the “program” and beyond.
That said, the idea of a “program” is a very loose term. Bottom line, Dan wants to bring someone out to BALI, pay for their basic living expenses and have them start managing some of our most successful websites.
Once again, I repeat, B-A-L-I. One of the most exotic and beautiful places on the planet – and is without a doubt one of the coolest places I visited last year.
It’s tough to really articulate just how valuable this offer is. I know Dan isn’t going to try and talk himself up too much in his post today, so I feel like I need to do it for him.
For the right person, this is better than winning the lottery – my time in SE Asia last year certainly was. This is also the gift that keeps on giving, considering sometime soon I’ll be hanging out with the lucky intern on the beaches of Seminyak.
So just to keep this from rambling on, let’s break down the true value of this opportunity:
- Living Expenses Covered. Now let’s be clear, you will not get a ton of money for this upfront. Your basic living expenses will be covered, and in Bali, it doesn’t take a ton to live. But for $500/month you can get by, and for a few hundred more you can be living the high life. Well…ish. Bali can be one the cheapest destinations on the planet, but it’s also home to more $1,000/night hotel rooms than any place in the world. So, you know, high life is relative.
- Hands on Instruction. Dan is one of the smartest business guys I know. Listen to any of the Lifestyle Business Podcasts and you can tell this guy knows his stuff. He’s also smart enough to know that success and money aren’t directly correlated. Would you rather have $100,000/year working 65 hours a week at a desk, or $10,000 annually doing whatever you want, where ever you want, when you want. Believe me, I’m not bagging on making lots of money, but there’s different ways of getting there, and ours is a hell of a lot more fun than most of them.
- Freedom. When I say hands on, I use the term loosely. Dan will lay out the goals and what he expects of you. You’ll work directly with him, me, and some of our developers on certain projects, but you’re going to get a lot of freedom to learn, make mistakes, and inevitably see incredible success. You have an entire team that’s a phone call or email away that will help you with any stumbling blocks you have, but this isn’t your traditional MBA – you’ll be applying everything you learn from day 1.
- Bridge to a New Life. There are going to be some people who aren’t right for this. In fact, I’d say most people won’t be right for it, because the reality is, it will require some sacrifice. However, this could be just the catalyst you need to get involved in a growing company, that puts lifestyle at the forefront of their goals. If you’ve been looking for an adventure and have a huge work ethic – well, this is your shot.
I’m hyping this up a lot. I know. It sounds like a huge sales pitch, and in a way it is. I’ve received a bunch of emails over the last year from people wanting to know how they could get involved in something similar to what I did. This is it.
There are no excuses about not having an opportunity to do cool stuff or make big changes. This is an opportunity. What are you going to do with it?
