For years I felt petrified by inaction.
My entire life I’d taken the path of least resistance. I knew exactly where I was going to go to college by the time I was in 8th grade.
I was offered a finance job 6 months before I graduated.
I just did the easy thing and followed each logical next step. I bought my suits that I was so excited about at the time. I bought a new car. I was getting everything that I thought I wanted.
The problem was I didn’t think about what I really wanted to do.
I just did what was easy.
I knew I had two goals for myself:
Would a finance job with 2 weeks of vacation in Portland, Oregon get me to any of those goals.
Short answer? No.
So, then why didn’t I just quit to pursue my true goals?
We all know it’s not that simple.
I was afraid of what my friends and family would think…
I was afraid of letting my boss down…
I was afraid of how I’d pay my bills….
I was afraid if I left, it wouldn’t look good on my resume...
I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of fears that I had in my life that were related to making a big life change.
I felt this way, even though I knew logically many of those fears were unfounded, and more importantly, that taking the calculated “risk” would more than likely get me closer to the path I really wanted to be on.
Then one day something clicked.
I realized that all of the dozens of fears I was facing and struggling with in my life, actually boiled down to just one, simple, thing:
You see, uncertainty is actually the only fear in the world.
We’re not afraid of spiders. We’re afraid of the uncertainty of what would happen if one bites us.
We’re not afraid of the dark. We’re afraid of the uncertainty surrounding what might be lurking in the shadows.
We’re not afraid of aliens. We’re afraid of the uncertainty of what would happen if we got beamed back up to their spaceship!
Uncertainty is one of the most powerful forces in the world - yet most of us don’t even realize it’s uncertainty that is driving most of our actions (or inactions).
Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to easily make the decisions that you want to make.
The decisions you know will lead to a better life, a greater sense of happiness, stronger relationships, and more money?
The way you do that is by tackling your relationship with uncertainty, and that is exactly what this course is designed to do.
It wouldn’t surprise me if you’re not quite ready to make the full leap into our Location Rebel Academy program.
Or perhaps, you don’t want to start your own business at all, you just want to make be able to confidently make decisions in your life that will get your closer to your goals.
That’s why I created this course.
I know first hand how debilitating that fear can be. But it doesn’t have to be.
There are a few simple tricks, and exercises I’ve learned that help you address, assess, and alleviate all of those uncertainties you’ve had about making a major life change.
Are you ready to start doing more of the things that make you happy? Awesome, Overcoming the Fear of Uncertainty was created just for you.
Over the last 7 years of being an entrepreneur and going through some difficult transitions in my own life, I’ve realized there are three phases of uncertainty.
The first phase is where the vast majority of people will stay for their whole lives.
I’m willing to bet that there are aspects of your life that are pretty easy and comfortable.
A job that pays the bills, a nice place to live, good friends and family.
It’s much easier to stick with “ok” or “mediocre” in your life, than it is to actually try and face your fears and go after the dreams and life you really want.
There’s also a good chance that if you were to ask yourself honestly, that you’d say you are "generally unhappy with your life and where you’re at."
You know what? The sad reality, is as Tim Ferriss has said “most people will choose unhappiness over uncertainty.”
It’s so much easier to stick in your day-to-day routine, than it is to make a stand and say “I’m going to make a change.”
In this course, we show you how to break out of phase 1 and into phase 2, which is probably the most important phase of all.
So what does this mean exactly?
When you’re in phase 2 it means you still know there’s uncertainly, you recognize that you’re still scared, you still have no clue what’s going to happen, and that you probably aren’t going to have most things “figured out.”
But you know what?
You face your uncertainty anyways.
When I left my job and moved to Thailand that was me entering phase 2.
I had no idea what creating my blog would bring. I had no idea if I’d be running back to a day job 6 months later.
All I knew was that I needed to get out of my comfortable, yet moderately unhappy bubble.
And let’s be honest, my life wasn’t that bad. But it wasn’t that great, either. And that middle zone is a very dangerous place to be in.
I needed to embrace the change and do something new.
Once I did that, opportunities started opening up left and right.
Things I never thought were possible began happening.
And overnight I felt like I became “lucky.”
Things just started happening for me, because I was willing to take a chance and work towards overcoming my uncertainty.
So if “overcoming” uncertainty is phase 2, then what could phase 3 possibly be?
It’s one thing to be scared, and do something anyway.
It’s another thing completely to fully embrace, and be excited about the change.
Most successful entrepreneurs have embraced uncertainty.
In fact, they take something that 95% of people fear and try to avoid at all costs, and they actually seek it out.
They turn uncertainty into an asset.
You see, if you have no idea what is going to happen in an uncertain future, that means you can make anything you want happen.
Steve Jobs had no idea computers would be a thing, but he went ahead and built Apple anyway.
Think of anything...
Even the concept of a lifestyle business.
These are all things that didn’t exist, but were created because someone embraced the uncertainty of it all.
Getting to phase 3 and embracing this mindset change is one of the very best things I’ve ever done for my life and business.
This course is designed get you from phase 1 to phase 2.
Then getting to phase 3 will come simply by starting to take action and beginning to see small wins.
So how do we do it?
We first start by digging into your fears and uncertainties, and breaking them down.
The only way we can truly solve the problem is to go deep into what causes the issues, confront them, and then address each one in a logical way that helps you conquer them.
We do that through a series of worksheets and exercises, specifically designed to help eliminate those concerns.
From there, we help you establish the lifestyle you really want, set goals, and make plans to actually turn those “somedays” into a tangible reality that gets you to take action.
