Lifestyle Business vs. Startup: Which Is Right for You?

By Sean Ogle •  Updated: 02/11/16 •  1 min read

My original plan of filming at the Traffic and Conversion Summit didn’t really pan out as I was expected.

So I grabbed my buddy Derek of Copyhour fame, headed down to the beach and talked a bit about the difference between a lifestyle business vs a startup.

I realized after the fact this was pretty similar to vlog #4, but you know…better. So we’ll just roll with it.

I think I could handle Barney for a million G’s, just don’t make me listen to the theme to SpongeBob SquarePants sung by Pinky the Pirate. Some good points about the difference between a startup and a ‘lifestyle’ business. I don’t want employees, rush hour, other congestion, or the headaches that go along with a typical startup. Thanks fo the vlog.

Great stuff Sean – a lot of people who get into building a “startup” don’t realize that the 60-100 hour weeks from the office don’t stop until the company is sold (or, in the case of an IPO, until they decide to throw in the towel).

It took me several years to pick up on the lifestyle business model and, while the level of commitment is on par, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Enjoy the beach man.

Great stuff Sean. You escape the corporate world and then end up creating another job for yourself – food for thought indeed. It’s good to take a step back and think hard about what you really want: Mountain climber or Freedom fighter? (http://www.seanogle.com/entrepreneurship/three-types-of-entrepreneurs)

PS: I like the dynamic duo effect here! Sean’s exuberant sarcasm + Derek’s deadpan cool = a mighty distraction. I had no intention of watching this until Sunday (working on something) – but then got sucked in.
