  1. Has guest posting contributed substantial views to your blog. I heard that it was a great way to grow your audience a few years back, but now everyone seems to be suggesting that it’s not necessarily worth the time. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! Even if they are biased from your most recently posts. 🙂

    Hey Rob,

    That depends on why you want to guest post. I think most people miss the point.

    If you just want more subscribers, the way to go is virtual summits. That will explode your list growth. Nothing (other than freelance bartering) comes close.

    But to run a virtual summit, you need to:

    (a) build a name for yourself, and
    (b) have a close connection with the big name experts you want to feature

    Which means… you need to build relationships.

    And guest posting for those experts is one of the best ways of doing that.

    After you write a guest post, it’s good to think “OK, what’s the next step after this? Can we do a webinar together? Maybe create a product? How can I create more value for this person’s audience? I’ve just spent # hours building this relationship – how can I take that relationship to the next level?” 🙂

    Just to give you some concrete data, here are the results from the guest post I wrote for Sean:

    – I got 250 new subscribers (which is a bit low compared to time invested) BUT:
    – Got to know Sean and Liz much better – and I can reach out to them if I need to pique their minds about something. This is huge.
    – 2 very big name bloggers reached out to me and invited me to guest post on their site,
    – Got 2 affiliate offers for related products,
    – 1 joint venture offer, and
    – Sold a $1,000 service to an entrepreneur who found me through the post

    Also, while promoting the article, I connected with a couple of other bloggers and we really hit it off. So we decided to do a marketing experiment (a joint giveaway where a bunch of us get together, pool our best content upgrades and promote it to each other’s lists).

    Actually, the joint giveaway just went live today. I got 200 subscribers in the first couple of hours and they’re still coming. 🙂

    Imho, the real value of guest posting isn’t the subscribers you get. It’s the relationship that opens doors.

    But yes… I do have a biased opinion on this ;P
